**StaffEx is currently hiring for Medical Interpreter for a Healthcare Center near the USF Campus. This position is a full-time, temp-to-hire opportunity that pays $16.95 to $21.30. (As needed schedule). The Medical Interpreter provides interpreting services for Limited English Proficiency patients and providers during clinical and non-clinical encounters selecting the appropriate interpreting mode to the encounter. The Medical Interpreter has a thorough knowledge of the professional Standards of Practice and Code of Ethics and applies them diligently in daily practice. The Medical Interpreter renders meaning in a confidential, accurate, impartial way while maintaining professional boundaries, treating parties with respect and acting in a professional and ethical manner. The Medical Interpreter completes Powerchart tasks generated from Cerner promptly after the patient has been admitted.
The Medical Interpreter documents the encounter promptly and accurately on the patient's chart and maintains accurate records of the services provided within the department's application. The ideal candidate will be energetic with a positive, can-do attitude to get the job done right in a fast-paced environment. We are seeking reliable candidates, who are willing to learn new skills and adapt to a working atmosphere that demands attention to detail and the ability to work fast under pressure. You will be required to work independently and as a team with little supervision. Must be able to provide proof of the following immunizations: MMR/2 series
Annual/seasonal flu vaccination
Tuberculin (TB) test, to be completed within the last 12 months. ** Key Duties: The Medical Interpreter provides interpreting services for Limited English Proficiency patients and providers. Any member from the healthcare team who needs to communicate with the patient. The provider speaks a message to the patient; the interpreter interprets it into the patient's language, and then interprets the patient's answer into the provider's language.
The Medical Interpreter facilitates communication in his or her conduit role during informed consent sessions, outpatient and inpatient visits, genetics counseling appointments, pre-op, pre-anesthesia sessions, Physical Therapy, discharge sessions, patient teaching, etc.
The Medical Interpreter applies the tenants of confidentiality, accuracy, impartiality and professional boundaries in all their interactions within the triadic encounter. The Medical Interpret interprets all utterances during the session, does not omit, add, or change the meaning of the message.
The Medical Interpreter completes Powerchart tasks as they are generated in Cerner upon patient's admission. The task consists of installing a supplemental interpreter services tool in the patient's room (phone or iPad), introducing the services to the patient and the nurse, and posting a flyer with the department's contact information.
The Medical Interpreter documents the sessions between providers and patient are on the patient's chart via the Language Services Interpreting documentation Powerform. The task involves thoroughly filling out
The Medical Interpreter keeps accurate records of the services provided on the department's application. This task consists of recording the start and end times of the session, as well as the status of the encounter (closed, declined, missed).
Requirements: High school diploma or 1-year verifiable work experience
Minimum of two (2) years of demonstrable experience in a hospital setting with specific medical interpreting training of at least 40 hours.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
Knowledge of basic anatomy, medical diagnostic procedures, diseases, treatments, major body systems, etc. In the working languages.
Advanced knowledge of the IMIA, CHIA, RID, and/or NCIHC Code of Ethics and standards of practice.
Advanced knowledge of the dynamics involved in a triadic encounter.
Advanced knowledge of modes of interpreting and ability to select the correct one in the particular situation.
Advanced knowledge of specialized medical vocabulary and oncology in the working language pairs.
Verbal proficiency in English and the spoken or signed target language(s); ability to understand readily and completely what others convey in the source language; ability to speak and be readily understood in both languages.
Written competence in both English and the target spoken language(s).
Intermediate sight translation skills
Basic knowledge of interpreter services documentation practices
Provide proof of Immunizations or be willing to acquire required immunizations
Pass 7 & 12 panel drug screen
No felonies in the past 7 years
Valid FL Drivers License
