Our Client is looking for an Applications Architect for a permanent position. This is a key role with lots of exposure and contact with Senior IT Management. Start: January 2019 Location: Toronto, ON Job Opportunity: Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Architecture, Information Services. The selected candidate will lead the development and implementation of the overall application architecture and roadmap for the company. They will be responsible for the conception of solutions, building consensus and the selling and execution of such solutions. Furthermore, the candidate will be expected to define enterprise-wide architectures and designs across multiple IT functional areas. The successful candidate will Interface across business areas, acting as visionary to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects. This individual will define enterprise level application and custom integration solutions including major enhancements and interfaces. The selected candidate will also provide education, coaching, and guidelines to IS teams, and exercise governance on the use of enterprise architecture tools, technology, and standards. Role & Responsibilities: Leadership, Models and Artefacts Lead the creation and evolution of the Application Architecture function, selection and adoption of frameworks and methodologies Participates in and coordinates Architecture Working Groups for the development and maintenance of Architecture Roadmaps and Guidelines Document I.S. Application Architecture using multiple architectural models or views that show how the current and future needs of the organization will be met in an efficient, sustainable, and adaptable manner across application portfolio; formulate plans to discontinue use of obsolete or low-value architecture components Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide solution design decisions. Collaborate with local, regional I.S. teams to deliver enterprise solutions that are scalable, adaptable and in synchronization with evolving business needs Software Lifecycle and Process Improvements Promote shared infrastructure and applications to reduce costs and improve information flows Ensure projects do not duplicate functionality or diverge from architecture guidelines Collaborate with other I.S. stakeholders to create and document standards and patterns that can be leveraged for future re-use and actively seek opportunities to leverage industry solutions for new business offerings and services Technical Excellence Review existing and emerging technologies and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise’s strategy and architecture; develop strategic initiatives aimed at enhancing productivity and business functions Identify and recommend areas appropriate for further study and participate in any Proof of Concept projects required to thoroughly investigate architectural possibilities and strengthen arguments for their adoption Ensure technical integrity and consistency of solutions at every stage of lifecycle Best Practices, Collaboration and Sharing Compile business needs, process information and technical requirements to produce an optimal, high level, analysis and conceptual design for projects and new solutions Support the development of policies, standards and guidelines that enable the selection, development, implementation and use of Information Technology within the enterprise Guide the creation and maintenance of software design strategy and direction Work with third party vendors to develop and/or integrate their applications into solutions; ensure that applications are in accordance with product standards and guidelines Recommend and participate in the design and implementation of standards, tools and methodologies. Experience in an environment running multiple platforms, .i.e. mainframe, Unix, Windows, is considered an asset Familiarity with Data, Security, Infrastructure and Business Process Architecture through collaborative experience in the design of enterprise-level solutions Strong (5+ years) technical expertise in System Integration, Web Services, middleware, SOA, ESB, BPM, ITIL, SaaS, COTS. Broad understanding of I.S. management practices and technology issues, including SDLC, infrastructure and application design, development tools, support, project and process management Ability to demonstrate initiative, good judgment and effective decision-making; Strong process improvement orientation, and experience in leading multi-disciplinary groups Experience in SAP design and/or implementation is considered an asset Good knowledge of industry standard frameworks (e.g. ITIL, CMMI) Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills Excellent written and oral communication skills Excellent presentation skills Must have Work Authorization for Canada.
